This 10' non-battered brick, enclosed tower with lower walls of brick, glass in steel frames and with 14'x14'cab with wood hip roof is the only lookout constructed by the Ventura County Fire Department. Masonry towers are very rare in California. The department was formed in 1928. The lookout was constructed in 1929 showing the early importance of fire detection for the county fire department. The lookout is painted pale yellow and continues to be used by the department to house communication equipment. This 30' steel K-brace non-battered tower enclosed in wood frame and siding with a 16'x16' octagonal cab is one of only two pre-1950 809R designs remaining of its height. Four were originally built. The lookout is named for a State Forest Ranger killed in Italy during World War II. A bronze dedication plaque is located near the northeast corner of the lookout which reads: "Sidney Chase Ormsbee Forester and Soldier 1916 - 1943. Around that bay and among these hills his home his play and his work."
